Cloud Catchers – Ingrid Hora

curated by Jasmina Janoschka / curatorial assistant: Jaqueline Maschke

Exhibition period: 28.09.2024 – 16.11.2024

In the exhibition “Cloud Catchers” in the art space hase29, Ingrid Hora uses artistic means to explore one of the central questions of our globalized world: How can we tackle the climate crisis and the associated ecological problems – especially water scarcity – with sustainable technologies without displacing traditional ways of life?

The starting point of the solo exhibition is the artistic research project "Cloud Catcher". In it, Ingrid Hora devotes herself to the future geography of water in a future shaped by climate change. The project deals with the resulting uncertainty and offers space for reflection: What options are there for obtaining water? How can water be distributed fairly? In photographic works, installation sculptures and drawings, the artist links ecological and social questions and tries to respond positively to the increasing uncertainty with artistic means - in order to open up perspectives for visitors on how to face the global challenge of water scarcity with confidence and courage.

Ingrid Hora

In a multidisciplinary artistic production, the artist Ingrid Hora (*1976 in Bolzano/Italy, lives and works in Berlin) stages experiments on socio-political conditions that examine the joint action of a collective in a changed context. At the same time, she asks the question to what extent acting in constantly re-forming, interactive networks is a fundamental and integral part of human nature, or whether we have already forgotten the ability to act flexibly together in our age of individualism.

Lecture + discussion
“Green Gold: Moss as an innovative tool in the fight against climate change”
with Prof. Dr. Sabine Zachgo (Director of the Botanical Garden / University of Osnabrück)

Thu, 07.11.2024, 19:XNUMX

In her lecture, Prof. Dr. Sabine Zachgo provides exciting insights into the DFG priority program MAdLand (Molecular Adaptation to Land) - an interdisciplinary research initiative funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG). The aim of this program is to understand the mechanisms that enabled plants to move from water to land around 500 million years ago. The plants met the requirements of the new habitat with a series of innovative adaptations that can help us today to meet the challenges of climate change. As part of the research project, the amphibious liverwort "Riccia fluitans" is being studied, among other things, to see how it can adapt to both more frequent flooding and longer dry periods - two of the challenges of climate change.
