Alice Musiol – Transit

curated by Dr. Ann-Katrin Günzel and Jasmina Janoschka

Exhibition duration: 15.02.2025-12.04.2025
Next event: “Life in Transit” – Musical slide show with the artist Alice Musiol – Fri, 04.04., 19 pm

In the exhibition “Transit” in the art space hase29, Alice Musiol (*1971 in Katowice, lives and works in Cologne) uses artistic means to explore the complex and, above all, ambivalent experience of transit and being on the move, which shapes and forms people all over the world.

Digitality, global mobility, migration and flight have made being on the move a central theme of our present. While for some people it means maximum freedom, pleasure and self-determination, for others it is an inescapable necessity dictated by existential constraints. Nomads, travelers, migrants or people on the run, they all have different experiences that can be somewhere between adventure, longing, loneliness, alienation or loss of identity, but are mostly interwoven with the search for a "better place" and therefore imply hope, if not big (future) dreams.

In the broad spectrum between freedom and doom, the exhibition sheds light on different realities that are associated with leaving the familiar and taking new paths. The state of transition can be experienced as a concept that goes beyond individual experiences and is deeply embedded in our social reality.

“Life in Transit” – Musical slide show with the artist Alice Musiol
Fri, 04.04.2025, 19 pm – Kunstraum hase29

During the musical slide show evening, the artist Alice Musiol takes the audience on a personal journey through her own life story. Using slides and musical contributions, she tells of her family's move from Poland to Germany and her "wandering years", which were characterized by numerous moves and new life stages up until the year 2000. Personal memories and universal themes such as home, identity and change are interwoven here and invite people to talk about leaving the familiar, taking new paths and arriving.

Live radio play: "Of short stories in the alphabet soup"
Sun, 09.03.2025, 17 pm – Kunstraum hase29

The live radio play “Letter Soup” bridges the gap between reading, concert, performance and musical theatre. The self-produced radio plays tell short stories of Bo Benino, who runs away from saying goodbye, or of Fridolin and Lotte, the shipwrecked travellers who live on the sailboat Sambala. Alphabet Soup invites the audience on an odyssey with a mixture of charming humour, profundity, a touch of melancholy and sensitive, loving musical arrangements. There is also a pig and there is cheesecake.
