Beate Freier-Bongaertz and Marvin Knopf “GOOD & CHEAP”

Exhibition duration: 25.09.2024 – 25.11.2024
Exhibition opening on Wednesday, April 25.09.2024, 19, at XNUMX p.m. in the foyer of the OsnabrückHalle

Both the artist Beate Freier-Bongaertz and the artist Marvin Knopf have been using materials from the consumer world in their works for years. Knopf uses torn-off pieces of printed advertising, Freier-Bongaertz uses packaging material. As similar as the materials are, the intentions of both artists are very different.

Freier-Bongaertz's works are characterised by the use of material as an impulse. Everyday objects such as packaging are reinterpreted, reworked and become unique pieces with new stories - inspired by brief encounters and everyday rituals. The "Tara" series shows travel impressions drawn on used packaging that are given a new identity.

Knopf's large-format abstract paintings, combined with advertising collages, blend with the world of goods. The trivial aesthetics of turbo-capitalism, normally designed for disposable products, are "immortalized" in painting. The high-price policy of the art market meets the low-price culture of the discounter - a mix of high and low class reflects the reality of today's life. Knopf takes up abstract expressionism and updates it with collage and graffiti.
